:: Itinerary
Day 1 – Darwin to Mary River
See the falls of Litchfield National Park before arriving at the Mary River Wetlands. This afternoon look for ‘crocs’ and other wildlife on our private river cruise. Arrive at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge to experience an Aboriginal Corroborree, dinner and overnight camp. (LD)
Day 2 – Mary River to Kakadu
We call in at Mamukala Wetlands then head to the awesome Jim Jim Falls to take a walk to the base of the falls before continuing on to Twin Falls. Here we join a National Park operated boat and boardwalk experience up the stunning gorge to the waterfall where you can relax on the sandy bank. We drive on to Kakadu for dinner and our overnight camp. (BLD)
Day 3 – Kakadu to Darwin
Our first stop is Ubirr where we discover ancient Aboriginal rock art. We continue our journey to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where we do some hiking and enjoy a refreshing dip in the plunge pools. We then return to Darwin, enjoying the impressive scenery along the way. Overnight dorm accommodation included. (BL)
Day 4 – Darwin to Katherine Gorge
We visit the Adelaide River WWII War Cemetery before spending the afternoon either canoeing or cruising (at own expense) the striking Katherine (Nitmiluk) Gorge. Overnight permanent camp. (LD)
Day 5 – Katherine Gorge to Tennant Creek
Relax in Mataranka's crystal clear thermal pools then experience the famous outback pub at Daly Waters. After lunch, we travel to Tennant Creek for our overnight camp at Juno Horse Farm. (BLD)
Day 6 – Tennant Creek to Alice Springs
This morning we visit the picturesque Mary Ann Dam in the ‘Honeymoon Ranges’, then head to the Devils Marbles. We continue on to Alice Springs for our overnight dorm accommodation. (BL)
Day 7 - Alice Springs
A FREE day to explore the sights of Alice Springs. Overnight dorm. (Meals at own expense)
Day 8 - Alice Springs
FREE day to explore the sights of Alice Springs (all activities at own expense). Overnight dorm accommodation. (Meals at own expense)
Day 9 - Alice Springs to Kings Canyon & Uluru
Experience the remote outback of the Red Centre as we drive to Kings Canyon to climb and explore the impressive formations of the ‘Amphitheatre’, ‘Lost City’, the picturesque ‘Garden of Eden’ and the breathtaking North and South Walls. After lunch continue on to, Uluru (Ayers Rock) passing Mt Connor and Curtin Springs cattle station. After dinner curl up under the millions of stars in an authentic Aussie bedroll (swag) at our permanent campsite. (LD)
Day 10 – Uluru and Kata Tjuta
Up before dawn to experience an Uluru sunrise and either an optional climb or base walk, exploring the mysterious rock formations and Aboriginal art sites. Visit the Cultural Centre for a greater insight into Aboriginal art and beliefs with the opportunity to purchase art & crafts. After lunch, hike the spectacular ‘Valley of the Winds’ in Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) then enjoy a glass of sparkling wine while watching the desert sun set over Uluru. Return to camp to enjoy a traditional camp oven dinner before ‘turning in’ for the night. (BLD)
Day 11 - Uluru to Coober Pedy
An early departure this morning as we head to Coober Pedy, crossing the Northern Territory / South Australia border. On arrival enjoy a mine tour, including an opal cutting demonstration, with the chance to try opal fossicking (time permitting). Overnight in an underground bunkhouse at Coober Pedy. (BLD)
Day 12 - Coober Pedy to Rawnsley Park
Today we journey further south along the Stuart Highway passing the ‘rocket-launching’ township of Woomera, breaking for lunch at Port Augusta before arriving at the spectacular sheep station of Rawnsley Park in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight bunkhouse accommodation at Rawnsley Park. (BLD)
Day 13 - Wilpena Pound to Parachilna
Rise and shine early for the challenging climb of Mt Ohlssen-Bagge. Be rewarded with fantastic views of Wilpena Pound, the Ranges, desert and Lake Torrens. After lunch, we drive through spectacular Parachilna Gorge as we head to Parachilna. Overnight dorm accommodation and a memorable ‘Aussie BBQ’ (including local game) at Parachilna. (BLD)
Day 14 - Parachilna to Adelaide
This morning we take a short walk to view Aboriginal rock art at Yourambulla Caves then visit the ruins of Kanyaka Homestead. We break for lunch in the historic railway township of Quorn, before heading to Adelaide via the beautiful Clare Valley. (BL)
